Hi everyone! I am currently in state of validating the idea of a social media without likes, followers count and other vanity metrics. I believe those vanity metrics can be stressful for some people, might also affect their mental health. Current model is full of gamification, it’s a race to earn most likes and followers giving us dopamine hit that makes us addicted. Some people even fake their life just for the sake of number. I thought we can do better. Removing vanity metrics could be the solution. Yes, brands and other businesses that use social media need analytics but for normal users? I don’t think so. Social media should be the place where they can share anything and anywhere they want without the fear of being validated by numbers. A free space where they can be them self, an authentic social media. I have a dilemma I can’t wrap my head around and want some advice. I have a personal Instagram. Let’s call it JonDoe. It goes with my personal twitter/twitch/youtube. On it, I have mixed personal content and brand content as a streamer/youtuber. It’s all growing very well, and I have over 1k on insta, growing daily, but I want to rebrand my JonDoe account to my streamer brand, lets call it SillyGamerStuff and start posting more funny / on-brand content. I figured I’d just start a second account for JonDoe’s personal stuff, for family, friends, girlfriend, etc and run with the momentum on my main account, now named SillyGamerStuff (don’t eff with momentum, right?) My only hangup, is that I would basically lose all my personal history on my JonDoe -> now SillyGamerStuff. “lose” as in, all my personal stuff from before I started this online personality, from about 2 years back, so 5 years or so of history, would be buried under all the brand content.
