TL;DR: How do I handle prospective employers asking in applications and interviews to show my personal accounts without disclosing that poor mental health lead me to stop posting to my personal Instagram? If someone has experience managing social media for a brand, do their own social media accounts (and metrics) influence hiring decisions? I have taken a long break from Instagramming on my own account for mental health reasons. While I’m still quite familiar with IG trends (following them locally in NYC and globally even since ceasing to post) and have managed SM presence for entities other than myself, I’m anxious that I will have trouble finding a job without showing prospective employers my own account which is inactive for the abovementioned reasons. Does anyone have any similar experience or suggestions on how to handle the “Whats your handle?” question they sometimes ask in applications and interviews, without disclosing the mental health issues that underpinned my decision to stop posting to my own? I have a dilemma I can’t wrap my head around and want some advice. I have a personal Instagram. Let’s call it JonDoe. It goes with my personal twitter/twitch/youtube. On it, I have mixed personal content and brand content as a streamer/youtuber. It’s all growing very well, and I have over 1k on insta, growing daily, but I want to rebrand my JonDoe account to my streamer brand, lets call it SillyGamerStuff and start posting more funny / on-brand content. I figured I’d just start a second account for JonDoe’s personal stuff, for family, friends, girlfriend, etc and run with the momentum on my main account, now named SillyGamerStuff (don’t eff with momentum, right?) My only hangup, is that I would basically lose all my personal history on my JonDoe -> now SillyGamerStuff. “lose” as in, all my personal stuff from before I started this online personality, from about 2 years back, so 5 years or so of history, would be buried under all the brand content.
