I’m in the situation of applying for a new job, but have a non-professional Twitter account (mostly politics). I’d prefer not to lose all my followers or tweets, but locking the account won’d do the trick. Too many people within my profession follow me so all it takes is asking a person to look at my account, if that’s an interest, and they’ll have access to everything (Many of the places I’m applying have people working there that follow me). ​ The only options as I see them are to lock my account but delete all my tweets and likes. I’m not going to block followers I suspect would look at my account - too much work. Deactivating my account seems reasonable, but I only have 30 days I think (This process will last at least four months). I have a dilemma I can’t wrap my head around and want some advice. I have a personal Instagram. Let’s call it JonDoe. It goes with my personal twitter/twitch/youtube. On it, I have mixed personal content and brand content as a streamer/youtuber. It’s all growing very well, and I have over 1k on insta, growing daily, but I want to rebrand my JonDoe account to my streamer brand, lets call it SillyGamerStuff and start posting more funny / on-brand content. I figured I’d just start a second account for JonDoe’s personal stuff, for family, friends, girlfriend, etc and run with the momentum on my main account, now named SillyGamerStuff (don’t eff with momentum, right?) My only hangup, is that I would basically lose all my personal history on my JonDoe -> now SillyGamerStuff. “lose” as in, all my personal stuff from before I started this online personality, from about 2 years back, so 5 years or so of history, would be buried under all the brand content.
