I think an ideal social media for amateur artists would be one that allows the user to display a gallery or portfolio, and at the same time provide a space for the formation of communities. That’s just an opinion, of course, and it doesn’t mean that’s what I’m looking for. I think Tumblr, DeviantArt and Instagram are the three major ones right now, but I can’t see how any positive aspect of them outweigh the negatives. I’m hoping someone will shed some light on me and convince me to use one of those or another social media. I know that Tumblr started banning pornographical stuff and mistargeted the LGBT community, both a big part of its userbase I think. So people have been claiming it’s dying. I wouldn’t like to join it and lose my time. Also, the search function is terrible. I don’t like how the best way to connect collectively is through reblogs and notes. Now, DeviantArt fills all the “requirements” I mentioned, but that place is just an endless sea of fetishes. I’m not advocating for its destruction, I simply think it’s disconcerting to enter the website and see feet, people tied and poneys having sexual thoughts on the home page. I have a dilemma I can’t wrap my head around and want some advice. I have a personal Instagram. Let’s call it JonDoe. It goes with my personal twitter/twitch/youtube. On it, I have mixed personal content and brand content as a streamer/youtuber. It’s all growing very well, and I have over 1k on insta, growing daily, but I want to rebrand my JonDoe account to my streamer brand, lets call it SillyGamerStuff and start posting more funny / on-brand content. I figured I’d just start a second account for JonDoe’s personal stuff, for family, friends, girlfriend, etc and run with the momentum on my main account, now named SillyGamerStuff (don’t eff with momentum, right?) My only hangup, is that I would basically lose all my personal history on my JonDoe -> now SillyGamerStuff. “lose” as in, all my personal stuff from before I started this online personality, from about 2 years back, so 5 years or so of history, would be buried under all the brand content.
