I have experienced several times across multiple socmed platforms the need to prove my identity or otherwise unlock my account. Now came the time when I can’t. My Twitter account requires me to provide a phone number, but I have no phone and do not intend to get one. So I spent thirty minutes figuring out how to get around the automatic open-the-app thing in order to submit a Help ticket via the website, because the app kept asking for my phone number even as I tried to fill out the help form through the app. There must be many other people who encounter this or similar problems. And plz don’t tell me to get a phone, or, in the case of my Facebook account, submit my ID. There is no damn reason why I should need to prove my identity with a phone number or ID if the nature of the lockout is given as “Violation of Terms” or whatever. If I say something extremely offensive, my identity is irrelevant. I know Facebook and Twitter will never change their cyberstalking ways, but I just need to vent. I have a dilemma I can’t wrap my head around and want some advice. I have a personal Instagram. Let’s call it JonDoe. It goes with my personal twitter/twitch/youtube. On it, I have mixed personal content and brand content as a streamer/youtuber. It’s all growing very well, and I have over 1k on insta, growing daily, but I want to rebrand my JonDoe account to my streamer brand, lets call it SillyGamerStuff and start posting more funny / on-brand content. I figured I’d just start a second account for JonDoe’s personal stuff, for family, friends, girlfriend, etc and run with the momentum on my main account, now named SillyGamerStuff (don’t eff with momentum, right?) My only hangup, is that I would basically lose all my personal history on my JonDoe -> now SillyGamerStuff. “lose” as in, all my personal stuff from before I started this online personality, from about 2 years back, so 5 years or so of history, would be buried under all the brand content.
