As Facebook plays with its algorithms to the detriment of some users and producers I have a tech feasibility question. Given that 90% or so of Facebook content is publicly available (even without a log-in) how viable is it for the creation of an external platform for users to select the content they want to see from the Facebook platform and have it pulled in to an external standalone application? So for instance I want to follow ten pages of Romantic poetry and art or Byzantine history but to view this outside of Facebook proper so its algorithms don’t get to decide what’s first and foremost in my feed. I suppose maybe even with a logged-in option in case I wanted to comment or interact in some way on Facebook itself. One assumes the bandwidth mainly comes from Facebook as the content provider, you are just using a theoretical portal through which to view it. It could even include a banner advertising option to fund the service. I have a dilemma I can’t wrap my head around and want some advice. I have a personal Instagram. Let’s call it JonDoe. It goes with my personal twitter/twitch/youtube. On it, I have mixed personal content and brand content as a streamer/youtuber. It’s all growing very well, and I have over 1k on insta, growing daily, but I want to rebrand my JonDoe account to my streamer brand, lets call it SillyGamerStuff and start posting more funny / on-brand content. I figured I’d just start a second account for JonDoe’s personal stuff, for family, friends, girlfriend, etc and run with the momentum on my main account, now named SillyGamerStuff (don’t eff with momentum, right?) My only hangup, is that I would basically lose all my personal history on my JonDoe -> now SillyGamerStuff. “lose” as in, all my personal stuff from before I started this online personality, from about 2 years back, so 5 years or so of history, would be buried under all the brand content.
