I have been tasked w/ pulling social media numbers, engagement rates and demographic info for a client, so they can put together an influencer media kit for approaching brands for sponsored content. They have decent follower numbers, but, for example, of their 13k FB fan page likes, only 1,500 are from the U.S. The majority are from Turkey, Indonesia and India. Similar things with IG and Twitter. Doing some digging, I discovered they worked with a company in the past that offers packages that guarantee you followers, auto likes, auto comments, etc. Now I’m trying to figure out the best way to discuss the state of their actual following with my client, without offending them or totally bursting their bubble. I am also hesitant to totally call out this company as being shady, even though I think they are, since my client obviously decided to work with them at some point. I have a dilemma I can’t wrap my head around and want some advice. I have a personal Instagram. Let’s call it JonDoe. It goes with my personal twitter/twitch/youtube. On it, I have mixed personal content and brand content as a streamer/youtuber. It’s all growing very well, and I have over 1k on insta, growing daily, but I want to rebrand my JonDoe account to my streamer brand, lets call it SillyGamerStuff and start posting more funny / on-brand content. I figured I’d just start a second account for JonDoe’s personal stuff, for family, friends, girlfriend, etc and run with the momentum on my main account, now named SillyGamerStuff (don’t eff with momentum, right?) My only hangup, is that I would basically lose all my personal history on my JonDoe -> now SillyGamerStuff. “lose” as in, all my personal stuff from before I started this online personality, from about 2 years back, so 5 years or so of history, would be buried under all the brand content.
