Hey guys. I’m starting to realize that social media is starting to play a negative role on my mental health. I have twitter, instagram, and snapchat. I notice lately I’ve been more aggravated especially in regards to twitter. If I find out that people block me or unfollow it hurts to feel the rejection. The reason why I have social media is because I make music and as an artist it helps give me a platform to connect with others. However, I am guilty of using it for purposes other than music such as just speaking out random thoughts. Sometimes these can be controversial and offend others which obviously comes with the consequence of social rejection. I don’t want to give up social media because I acknowledge that without it there are a lot of relationships/business opportunities that I may never have came across. I do however notice that it’s become a double edged sword lately and I really want to ease my way off of it slowly to better manage my public image. I have a dilemma I can’t wrap my head around and want some advice. I have a personal Instagram. Let’s call it JonDoe. It goes with my personal twitter/twitch/youtube. On it, I have mixed personal content and brand content as a streamer/youtuber. It’s all growing very well, and I have over 1k on insta, growing daily, but I want to rebrand my JonDoe account to my streamer brand, lets call it SillyGamerStuff and start posting more funny / on-brand content. I figured I’d just start a second account for JonDoe’s personal stuff, for family, friends, girlfriend, etc and run with the momentum on my main account, now named SillyGamerStuff (don’t eff with momentum, right?) My only hangup, is that I would basically lose all my personal history on my JonDoe -> now SillyGamerStuff. “lose” as in, all my personal stuff from before I started this online personality, from about 2 years back, so 5 years or so of history, would be buried under all the brand content.
